This site is dedicated to the memory of Ben Greenwell.
Benjamin Elmer Greenwell was born on April 26, 1924, in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Myrtle and Elmer Greenwell and brother to Lucretia ("Cotty"). Known as "Daddy" to his three daughters who love him very much, and as "Grampa" to his five grandchildren, he endeared himself to many with his intelligence, humor, fastidious ways, "softie" nature, love of children, knack for telling anecdotes and generous heart. He enjoyed people of all ages, and they enjoyed him. He has left us with many precious memories. He is dearly loved and deeply missed by family and friends.

Ben was my neighbor for 14 years. I got to know Ben better as we shared life and family stories during our backyard visits watching and discussing the birds, wildlife and flowers in our little backyards. Bluebird nesting will be lonely this spring. I miss you, gentle Ben, my backyard friend.
