Two Angels

One thing I will miss most about Daddy is the flowers he sent me every year on the anniversary of my precious David's death. Daddy loved flowers, and I loved that he loved flowers; it spoke to something special about him. But it's not the flowers I will miss . . . it's the fact that he commemorated his grandson's precious life year after year, after so many others allowed mention and remembrances of David to fade away. (Now I will have just one May bouquet, thanks to you, dear Melanie!) One of my favorite ways to remember David is coffee mugs. When I make my latte in the morning, I choose the mug with care depending on what the day holds and what is on my mind or in my heart at the moment. I have inspirational mugs, seasonal mugs, pretty mugs, big basic mugs, and even a Big Hug Mug that was given to me after David died. To remember David I have a mug the color of sunshine, a mug covered with butterflies, a Disney World mug, and two angel mugs. When I found the angel mug—childlike angel figure with a round head and wispy hair and the words "The bonds we have are everlasting"—it was so perfect that I bought two mugs just in case one broke. The other morning I was deciding which mug ought to start my day, and I wanted a Daddy mug. I didn't have one. But then I realized that I did. I have two angel mugs and now I have two angels. The bonds we have are everlasting, Daddy. I love you.
